HOT REFLECTION # 1
Hello class!
Hello class!
In this opportunity, I had the chance to teach students from the English Access Program afternoon shift, first year. Supposedly, I was going to teach in the first hour of classes, but the teacher had some problems, so I taught the second hour.
I arrived very early to the classroom to write the date, objective and agenda. First of all, I gave them some pieces of papers so that they could write their names, paste them on their chests and in that way I could memorize their names easier.
After that, I developed the warm up activity called " write it on the back" the students needed to paste some pieces of papers I gave them on their backs and start writing something that was related to technology, at the end, the winner would be the person who has more item written on their pieces of papers. I could see that the students were participating enthusiastically during the activity because they are teens , and they like everything related to technology. While developing this activity, the students were walking around the classroom trying to write things related to technology. They were developing their writing skill and trying to remember new vocabulary they had been studying lately.
Later on, I made a review about the last class, they were studying frequency adverbs, so to make students participate in the grammar point, I prepared some colored sheets of paper and I wrote some frequency adverbs on them, so ten, I wrote on the board from 0% to 100% Consecuently, I asked for seven volunteers and I told them that they needed to paste the frequency adverbs according to the percentages they had on the board, just two students were wrong when doing it. They are students that like to participate, so you need to take advantage of this and prepare an interactive class so that they can have a constant interaction while learning. Students were excited while developing this activity, and it helped mostly the visual learners. I always like to incorporate some visuals in my classes because I know that some students like to see color around them.
Next, I told them to write on their notebooks something about their favorite apps, so I gave them some time for writing someting about it, while doing it, I was monitoring to see if they were developing the activity. After some prudent time, I told them to stand up and share with a classmate something they like about their favorite app. I could see that this activity really like them because they could write something that they like the most, and at the same time, they were interacting with others and developing their speaking and listening skills.
So then, I told the students to stand up, make two lines face to face with another classmate in the classroom, next, I told one side that they were going to be in favor, and the other one againts about some statements I was going to say out loud. In this activity, they were very motivated talking about some items because they were related to technology, so they did not want to stop talking about them. The unique problem was that it caused a little bit of noise for the other classrooms.
Finally, It was a good experience working with these students because they are willing to learn something new , and they really appreciate all the effort we put in every single activity we develop in the classroom. I cannot wait for my next practices. Teaching is my passion.
